MAXWELL, Neb. (AP) - Crew members have escaped harm from a locomotive fire in western Nebraska.
Union Pacific Railroad spokesman Mark Davis says the fire began at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday in the lead locomotive of a train headed to North Platte from St. Paul, Minn.
Maxwell Fire Chief Jason Sommer says four of his department's rigs were sent about a mile west of town to where the train stopped. Sommer says the fire was basically out by the time his firefighters arrived.
Davis says the fire was extinguished at 7:50 a.m.
