Omaha State Senator Bob Krist's bill that would change the way Nebraska helps those with gambling addictions is building steam

Omaha State Senator Bob Krist's bill that would change the way Nebraska helps those with gambling addictions is building steam. He says the way the program was originally designed back in the 1990's is the way the program should be run today.

Bob Krist, Omaha State Senator; "gambling addictions."

Senator Krist's bill would establish a nine member commission made up of medical experts, educators and those with experience treating gambling addictions. The Department of Revenue would oversee the program instead of the Department of Health and Human Services who currently outsourced services to a hotline operated out of Chicago. The Bill advanced to the second round of debate on Monday.

A Bill that would replace Nebraska's outsourced gambling hotline with face-to-face counselors advanced to the second round of debate on Monday.

Krist; "of revenue."

Omaha State Senator Bob Krist says he is disappointed that treatment for problem gamblers was transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services who then outsourced the service to a hotline based out of Chicago.

A hotline based out of Chicago that Nebraskans can call to get treatment for gambling addictions isn't good enough. That according to Omaha State Senator Bob Krist who wants to provide in-state treatment overseen by a nine member commission.

Krist; "of education."

Senator Krist's bill requires the Department of Revenue to oversee the gambling addiction program instead of the Department of Health and Human Services. His bill advanced to the second round of debate Monday.
