NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A 21-year-old North Platte man has been given six to 10 years in prison for the hit-and-run crash death of a bicyclist in 2011.

Michael Malmkar had pleaded no contest in December to vehicular homicide and to leaving the scene of an accident. Malmkar was sentenced on Monday in Lincoln County District Court.

Authorities say Malmkar was driving down State Farm Road on the south side of North Platte on June 16, 2011, when his vehicle hit 56-year-old Levern Walter and his wife, Roberta, also 56. Levern Walter died of his injuries. Roberta Walter was treated at a hospital.
