Governor Heineman says he is thinking about...but only thinking about...running for United States Senate after the surprising announcement from Senator Johanns that he won't seek re-election next year. Brent Martin has the story.

Governor Heineman, a Republican, praises Senator Johanns' service to Nebraska...but won't commit to the race to replace Johanns. . .

Heineman has succeeded Johanns before. He served as Johanns' Lt. Governor and became governor when President George W. Bush chose Johanns to serve as Secretary of Agriculture.


Governor Heineman says he will consider running for the United States Senate, but won't commit to the race.
Heineman, a Republican, is giving it consideration in wake of the decision by Senator Johanns to retire when his term ends next year. . .

Heineman served as Johanns' Lt. Govenor. He became governor when Johanns was selected as Secretary of Agriculture.


Governor Heineman says it's too early to decide whether he will run for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator Johanns.
In wake of Johanns' decision, Heineman will only say he is considering a run for US Senate. . .

Heineman, a Republican, says he must consider...with his family...whether he wants to take on the challenge of running for the Senate.
Heineman served as Johanns' Lt. Governor and became governor when Johanns was chosen as Secretary of Agriculture.


Governor Heineman says he understands why people are speculating...but insists he will need some time to consider whether to become a candidate for United States Senate.
The speculation began almost immediately after Senator Johanns announced he would step down after serving out his term.

Both Heineman and Johanns are Republicans. Heineman served as Johanns' Lt. Governor and became governor when Johanns became the Secretary of Agriculture under President George W. Bush.
