Senator Johanns has thrown his support to adding a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Johanns, a Republican, says Congress and President Obama need to get serious about addressing the nation's fiscal problems. . .

Johanns says he doesn't take amending the Constitution lightly, but believes a balanced budget amendment is needed to force Congress to cut spending.


Senator Johanns has become a co-sponsor of a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
Johanns says it's a drastic, yet necessary step. . .
Johanns; "generations to come"
The amendment would limit federal government spending to 18-percent of the Gross Domestic Product. It currently stands about around 23-percent. In addition, it would require a super-majority vote for Congress to raise taxes or increase the debt limit.


Senator Johanns says it likely will take an amendment to the Constitution to force Congress to address the nation's fiscal crisis.
Johanns notes the federal debt has topped 16 Trillion dollars and shows no signs of coming down anytime soon...as evidence by a recent Appropriations Committee meeting he attended. . .
Johanns; "we just don't"
Johanns says he doesn't take amending the Constitution lightly, but believes its necessary to keep spending in line.
