Nearly five years after the death of her 2-year-old daughter, a former Gering woman if facing charges in connection with her death

GERING, Neb. (AP) - Nearly five years after the death of her 2-year-old daughter, a former Gering woman if facing charges in connection with her death.

     KNEB reports Charyse Geurts turned herself in and made her first court appearance last week. She is free on $5,000 bond.

     Geurts is charged with interfering with the investigation and providing false information. Her attorney Bell Island says Guertz maintains her innocence.

     Geurts' boyfriend at the time is charged with causing Juliette Geurts' death. Dustin Chauncey is charged with child abuse resulting in death and manslaughter.

     But Chauncey is in a Colorado prison. Nebraska prosecutors will have to pursue extradition before he can face these charges.

     Juliette Geurts died in her Gering home in July 2008. An autopsy showed the girl died because of trauma.
