Congressman Jeff Fortenberry holds out hope that a step can be taken to address the nation's financial problems even as time runs out on the lame-duck session.
Fortenberry, though, doesn't see a lot of progress toward heading off automatic budget cuts and an increase in taxes set to take effect at the end of the year. . .

Congressional Republicans have called on President Obama to offer specific budget cuts. The president has insisted on raising tax rates for Americans making more than 250-Thousand dollars a year.


Congressman Jeff Fortenberry says he still hopes a solution can be found to avoid what has been called a fiscal cliff during this lame-duck session of Congress.
Fortenberry, though, doesn't see much progress. . .

Fortenberry says the two sides either need to reach an agreement or settle on something that can be a bridge to the new Congress which begins next month.


Congressman Jeff Fortenberry says negotiations to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff haven't gotten anywhere, because there really haven't been any negotiations.
Fortenberry points out President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio have been negotiating through the media. He says the whole concept of Congressional procedure has shifted. . .

Tax will rise and deep budget cuts will take effect at the beginning of the new year if Congress fails to act.
