The Ralston school board has agreed to offer buyouts to longtime teachers as part of its efforts to avert more severe budget-cutting measures.

RALSTON, Neb. (AP) - The Ralston school board has agreed to offer buyouts to longtime teachers as part of its efforts to avert more severe budget-cutting measures.

The Omaha World-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/QIT3Ce) that board president Linda Richards said Monday that the buyouts won't solve all of the district's financial problems and is but one tool that will be used.

Superintendent Mark Adler last week warned teachers and other workers of possible staff reductions next year.

Adler says the district will have to cut up to $2.7 million of spending from plans for the 2013-14 school year.
