Beef supplies are up, for now... But, due to a tough year for cattle producers, prices are expected to jump.
Nebraskans that have a freezer may want to stock up on meat now. Because of high feed costs, cattle producers reduced inventory recently and that bumped up supplies. Ricky Volpe is a USDA Food Price Economist and says the prices you see at the meat case now won't be around for long.
Ricky Volpe:
Volpe says when you throw inflation, lower inventories and a high worldwide demand into the mix that only means prices will go up from here. Even if cattle producers increase production now we won't see an increase in beef supplies until at least 2016.
