Meetings are planned this month in more than a dozen Nebraska towns where the U.S. Postal Service plans to cut hours at post offices to save money.
USPS spokesman Peter Hass says window hours could be reduced to two, four or six hours a day depending on the location.
"We want to hear our customers' feedback on what their preferences are. We're going to be doing community meetings in every community where we have proposed changes in the retail hours for a post office."
The USPS originally proposed closing 3,700 rural post offices around the country to slash costs, but after strong opposition from residents, altered the plan to simply reduce retail hours.
The list of local post offices that will be cutting their hours includes: Hayes Center, Champion, Maywood, Palisade, Brule, Big Springs, Arthur, Arnold, Brady, Broadwater, Elsie, Hershey, Keystone, Lemoyne, Lewellen, Madrid, Lodgepole, Maxwell, Paxton, Thedford, Wallace, Wellfleet, and Venango, among others.
