As federal officials work to trim the budget, alarms are being sounded by Nebraska health care officials that vital medical funding is at risk of being slashed.
Kathi Hansen, spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society's Cancer Action Network, says a loss of federal dollars for cancer research is a major concern.
Kathi Hansen:
It's estimated nearly 34-hundred Nebraskans will die from cancer this year while 87-hundred new cases will be diagnosed. Hansen encourages Nebraskans to sign the online petition to show candidates the importance of the funding issue. The site is www.cancervotes.org.
