Wildfires have charred tens of thousands of acres of Nebraska grassland and pastureland, but the flames have also wiped out something farmers badly need to contain their livestock.
It's been a tough season for the region's farmers and ranchers, with the drought and now the intense wildfires. Those fires have destroyed hundreds of miles of permanent fencing, in addition to what was left of the summer grass for the cattle herds. Those fences need to be rebuilt before grazing can resume next year. Donations of wire and post may be delivered to the Farmers and Ranchers Co-op in Ainsworth.
Also, the North Central Development Center in Ainsworth has set up a fund so anyone can make donations to help with the cost of the fire. Those donations may be made online through PayPal.
