There is a lot of concern over the excluding of America's founding fathers in proposed new Nebraska standards for Social Studies.

That concern may have been a bit premature. Bob Evnen is a member of the State Board of Education, District 8 and says what people are commenting on is a very early preliminary draft that is focused more on concepts and themes relative to America's development a country.

Bob Evnen:

Evnen says the founding fathers along with other historical figures and dates will be part of future rewrites of the standards. Evnen is speaking for himself and not as a spokesman for the Board of Education when he says the goal is to make students aware of the unique genius of America.

Bob Evnen:

In early drafts many historical figures and dates were excluded. Changes have been also made to eliminate language on some issues. For example, an early draft indicated global warming was a fact, not a theory.
