Authorities have released the name of a man who apparently committed suicide after a chase and standoff with police near Crawford in western Nebraska.

CRAWFORD, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska State Patrol says 40-year-old Chad Sorensen, of Minatare, was found dead in his car early Wednesday.

The patrol says the incident began late Tuesday when Sorensen brandished a handgun at some Dawes County deputies in Crawford. Sorensen fled in a car and stopped about two miles south of town.

The officers followed and the standoff began. The patrol says deputies approached the car about 3 a.m. and found Sorensen had apparently shot himself.

An autopsy is pending. Because Sorensen died during an incident with officers, a grand jury will be convened to look into what happened.
