A Nebraska juvenile was arrested on Saturday, accused of attempted robbery at an Ogallala convenience store.

Ogallala Police Chief David Kling says a boy walked into the Ogallala Kwik Stop just before midnight last Wednesday and demanded money.  The individual had his face concealed and was wielding a gun.  The cashier at the Kwik Stop was able to identify the gun as a BB gun, and told the assailant he was calling the police.

The individual fled the scene on foot at that point.  Ogallala Police Officers arrived on the scene almost immediately, but were not able to locate the suspect.  A witness, however, observed a vehicle with 39-county plates leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Officers contacted the Sidney Police Department and, based on the vehicle and subject’s description, developed a suspect.

After viewing the security video from Kwik Stop, Sidney Police Officers were able to make a positive identification on the vehicle’s owner, which led to the seizure of the vehicle on Thursday.  Interviews were then conducted with involved parties and a juvenile subject was identified.

An officer went to Lisco on Saturday and served a search warrant with the assistance of the Garden County Sheriff’s Office.  The BB gun used in the attempted robbery was located and seized, along with other incriminating evidence.

The 16-year-old suspect was later arrested on a Keith County Warrant by the Scottsbluff Police Department.  Ogallala Police Chief David Kling says more arrests in the case are suspected.

The juvenile’s name is not being released at this time.
