A Hayes Center school board member facing a recall attempt has resigned.
HAYES CENTER, Neb. (AP) - The Daily Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/K20NJ4 ) Randy Richter stepped down at the board's Monday meeting. The remaining board members will choose his replacement at their June 11 meeting.
Richter served on the board for nine and a half years and was its vice president. His latest term was to go through December 2014.
His opponents accuse Richter of using his position to carry out a personal agenda. They collected enough signatures on a petition to force a recall vote but the school board has failed for several months to set a date for the special election.
Richter denies the allegations He says he chose to resign to save the district further legal expenses.
