A dispute between Colorado communities and the oil and gas industry is subject of a compromise proposal due to state lawmakers Wednesday.
DENVER (AP) - But the compromise isn't expected to end criticism from towns and counties that want more say over how energy drilling is done.
A task force of the energy companies, local governments and environmental activists was set up about a month and a half ago to settle whether local jurisdictions can put limits on drilling.
Advances in drilling technology have led to energy exploration in populous communities where many residents want local zoning control. The oil and gas industry has argued against local zoning.
The task force is expected to suggest better cooperation between the industry and local governments, but no new laws in response to the conflicts.
